"LANGUAGE MAY BE A SOURCE OF MISUNDERSTANDING"

"The medium is the message", now a famous quote, was written by Marshall McLuhan in 1964. While the medium may affect how messages are received, the users’/audiences’ own background/experience may also affect the interpretation of messages.

As far back as I can remember, I have hated being misunderstood—especially when that misunderstanding ends up making somebody feel bad. My earliest memory of this happening was from when I was in my highschool year. I don’t remember the details, but it was an event in my previous school and she was thirsty and I gave her my bottle of water or something like that. I remember her saying, “Thank you.” I was feeling very generous and in my mind, I didn’t want her to feel like she had to thank me. I tried to express this by saying, “You’re not welcome.”

To my surprise, she immediately became upset and told my other friends that I was being rude. I obviously didn’t understand the whole idea of saying “you’re welcome” to someone. I figured it was an obligatory answer you just said when someone said thanks. I remember so clearly how sad it made me that she thought I was being mean… especially since I was trying to be nice. I tried to explain to him what I meant and he wouldn’t hear it. It wouldn’t be the last time I was misunderstood this way.

Misunderstanding also occurs when the two people have a different nationalities who only speak their own language try to talk to each other. Misunderstanding is also a communication that we often experience in our life. Especially when we communicate with people from different cultures.

We wouldn’t be human if such misunderstandings didn’t occur from time to time.

Educated persons can easily  handle the things in life. knowledge is the strongest tool providing to the people and knowledge  cannot be defeated by any other power on the earth.

We can also say that , knowledge gives power to a person who fights for his rights and compete with the world. Human beings get power from knowledge and are not dependent on the physical strength. Human beings are very sharp and sensible creature on the earth because they have the ability to change the world with their knowledge , research and experiments .

Knowledge is power, because knowledge will lead you to made better decisions in your life and knowledge gives power to the human beings to know how to control the forces of nature and use them for getting benefits.

I am living my life , looking up to someone who i idolized.  I wanted to be someone that simple and humble. A Person that eventhough its hard to be far away from her family, she still do her best to manage her time to communicate with her family and as an student-athlete.

The most influential person in my life is Ms. Alyssa Valdez. Everyone calls her "Phenom" because of her talent in playing volleyball. She won 20 MVP'S , 15 Championships and 50 plus Finals Appearance. She plays international games, she became an import in Thailand and Taiwan, She also named as the National Team Captain and "The Face of Philppine Volleyball" . But eventhough is already the famous volleyball player in the philpppines , she remains the girl that came from the province who pursued her dream in manila , and took up the course that she really want (AB PSYCHOLOGY) . After she graduated in Ateneo and 5 years of playing in the UAAP She continued her volleyball in the Premiere volleyball League leading the Creamline Cool Smashers.

Because of her, i realized and found out what i really like. At first i thought i was a dancer or loves to dance, when i saw Valdez plays volleyball and how many people she inspire. Because of her i found exactly what i wanted (Volleyball).

I became a student-athlete in school for 4 years and took by another school to play with their team, who wins 2 championships, 4 Finals Appearance and Luckily got an MVP award .

" It's so important. That's the biggest part of being a student-athlete. I Have to make sure I work just as hard off the court as I do on the court" -Armon Johnson
